News - from Keith, the Vice President
15 October 2026
G’day All
Well, I have three items today – so check the three out please.
The hand and foot cards session next Tuesday 20th October has been cancelled as most of our players will be at a funeral.
Our Entertainment Afternoon on Saturday 24th October is filling up. We still have room so come along and enjoy Col Perkins and Dianne and Joan's lovely afternoon tea.
Believe it, or not, our bus trip to Churchill Park on Monday 16th November is rapidly filling up – we only have 11 spots left, so you need to get your names on the list in the hall way very quickly.

G’day All
Do you remember that I sent out an email about a possible bus trip to Churchill Island a couple of weeks ago? We’ve had a pretty good response about it, so we’re going to give it a go! See the attached flyer. The booking sheet is already up on the board in the hall way. That sheet is the one we check for numbers, so, if you don’t remember to put your name on it you could miss out. Please don’t miss out.

Just a reminder to get your names down for the Col Perkins afternoon on Saturday 24th October. We’re a bit light on at the moment so more names would be good. Don’t forget you get a great afternoon tea as well as Col.

Dianne is planning a bus trip to Phillp Island on Monday 16th November. We would visit Churchill Island in the morning, go to the Cowes RSL for lunch, then re-visit Churchill Island on the way home to see a couple of demonstrations that they only do in the afternoon.
There are two things she is concerned about – it would be a long day, leaving at 8am and not returning until 5:00-5.30pm. And the cost would increase to $50 due to the rising fuel costs and the long distance.
So Dianne really wants to find out if many of you would be interested in this trip before she confirms it. Would you please let her know – either by return e-mail or a phone call. Now, this will not be a commitment on your part, it will just give us an idea if the bus trip is viable or not. Do please let Dianne know soon.
Regards Keith

G’day All
A bit of sad news today, two of our long serving members passed away this week – Gwen Dent joined us in 2007, she was a dancer, and enjoyed our entertainment afternoons.
Syd Hendley is the other one. He joined in 2005 and was active in a number of our activities, including dancing, cards, and bus trips. It’s good that they enjoyed their time with the Club.

G’day All
Do you remember, a few weeks ago that I advertised an entertainment afternoon in October and I got shot down in flames, as I had double booked the hall! Now I had promised to have an Entertainment Afternoon in October, and – you know – I always deliver on my promises (wait until Dianne reads this, I bet I get a whack for saying that!).
It took me a while and I’ve had a few knockbacks (reminds me of my younger days!), but now, my mate Col Perkins has come to the rescue. He will entertain us on Saturday 24th October at 1.30pm. The details are all on the Activities Page. Col has visited us a number of times over the past years, and he is always excellent.

I have just found out that one of our dancer members runs a beginners dance class. Now we have had a few enquiries from some of our members about learning to dance. We are not set up to do that. Although Maree does a refresher segment on different dances before our Sunday dances. But this is for people who can dance.
So, here’s an opportunity to learn. Deb is a qualified instructor, and is excellent – and she’s friendly, so you don’t have to worry about making mistakes. The class is in East Malvern, and all the details are here.

G’day All
I have two items today!
The first one is for our next FREE WEEK! It will run from Sunday 11th October to Saturday 17th October, inclusive. So, if I’ve counted my fingers and toes correctly, every activity will have a free session. I know that sometimes I miss a toe, so just check on my calculations!
We are trying out a new Exercise Class. It’s for members who are getting a little unsteady. So, it will be a seated class. It will run on Wednesday 14th October from 10am to 11am. One of our Friday instructors – Lea Young will take it. It would usually cost you $5, but, seeing that it’s in the middle of our FREE WEEK, it will be free. The club has a good amount of equipment available, but if you need anything different, you will need to provide it yourself. Do wear comfortable clothes and appropriate shoes. Oh, and bring a water bottle if you wish. Please contact Janette on 0490 013 705 to claim your spot in the Class.

G’day All
This just for our members going to Watergardens hotel on Thursday. Stephen is looking after you on the day, and he has asked if you would please wear your Club lanyards on the trip. He doesn’t know you as well as Dianne does, so he reckons it will make it easier for him to round everyone up at home time.
Regards Keith

G’day All
We’re thinking of running an Exercise Class for our members who have slowed down a fair bit. In fact it will be for people who now use walking sticks, walkers, etc. We’re looking at Wednesday mornings at – say – 10am for an hour. It sounds like a good idea to us, but we need to know what you think. So, if you are in the category I’ve described, and you are interested, would you please ring Jeanette on 0490 013 705 and let her know.
Regards Keith

G’day All
Now, don’t forget that those of you going to the Watergardens Hotel next week have to put your money in the white box in the hall by next Thursday – the 10th – at the LATEST. That’s because we have to pay the Hotel in advance. So, do please pay so that Dianne doesn’t stress, and my little world remains calm and peaceful!

Wouldn’t yer just know it? As if nothing could get worse – but it has! Dianne's phone has collapsed!
If anyone needs to contact Dianne do please use my phone – 0412 763 468.. You can’t imagine the feeling of power that this gives me. When the phone is fixed I guess I’ll be back to earth as well.

G’day All
Do you ever have moments when all your plans just fly out the window? I just did. We went away 10 days ago on our usual caravanning trip. Anyway, I became ill, and had to go to hospital for observation for a night, but they couldn’t find anything wrong. So, we have had to come home so I can have a few more tests done. It looks as though our next trip will have to wait a few months. So we'll go back to the club again a little sooner than we thought. It will be nice to see you all again. Click here for extra travel details.

As you know, we have planned a trip to Watergardens Hotel for Morning Melodies on Thursday 17th September. Do please note that I didn’t take all your expressions of interest as a booking. So, the sheet is up on the board in the hallway for you to book your place.

We’re going to run the bus trip to Watergardens Hotel on 17th September. We had a really good response to our query about running this trip. Click here for all the details.

09 August 2026
G’day All
We have a query which we would like answered very quickly please.
Dianne had decided to organize another bus trip for September whilst we were away caravanning. Now, you know how gremlins change things? Well, the bus trip would be to WaterGardens Hotel for Morning Tea, a Morning Melodies, then the Smorgasbord Lunch. Cost would be $35. We did this last year and it was quite good apparently.
NOW, this is where the Gremlins have struck. We thought the 17th September was a Wednesday, but those damn gremlins have made the 17th a THURSDAY!
Our urgent question is – how many people would we get to go on a Thursday? If we get say 30-40 we will still do it, as we can get a smaller bus, but if it’s only around 20 we would not go ahead with the event.
Please let us know straight away if you are interested. This won’t be a booking, it’s just to give us an idea as to whether we should go ahead, or not.
Regards Keith

G’day All
We’ve just come home from our bus trip to Moonee Valley Racecourse. We had Morning Tea – a lovely fresh muffin – a Morning Melodies Show featuring Abba songs for an hour, then a really nice Roast Beef lunch. We all had a great day. The weather was lousy, the traffic even worse, we got there late, but it all worked perfectly! We had 52 members there and, after Deb and Josie broke the ice and started to dance, I reckon more than half of our lot took over the place and danced. They shimmied and they rocked, and they line danced. Then we finally did a Conga Line all round the place. Click here for a video clip. There are some good dancers amongst our members who don’t go to Club dances!
We'll get some photos to Cliff for our web site later today.

Sadly two of our members booked on the bus trip have the dreaded flue! So, we have two seats available for Wednesday. If anyone is interested please call Dianne on 0411 446 854 ASAP.

G’day All
We have decided (that’s Cliff, our Web Manager, and me), that our new President – Barry MacFarland – needs a bit of help getting in to the IT World! Barry has never had anything to do with computers, and, all the rest of us knows that our world now revolves around E-mails and text messages – particularly so when dealing with Council and outside businesses.
So Cliff has asked me to find out if anyone has an old computer that they don’t use anymore – maybe a 5 – 8 years old one that they would like to donate to the “Get Barry into the Modern World” programme. Cliff would completely wipe the hard drive in your presence, and he would also delete Windows and install Chrome OS. This would turn it into a very basic computer, which is just what Barry needs.
If anyone can help, please SMS Cliff on 0457856576, and he will contact you direct.

What a miserable day – it’s 8 degrees in Bayswater! Anyway this is just a note to advise that our bus to Moonee Valley is fully booked, I’m looking forward to it.

Well, we’ve decided to ignore all that Straits of Hormuz stuff – we’re going on a BUS TRIP AGAIN! Actually it’s to a Morning Melodies at Moonee Valley Racecourse on Wednesday 5th August.
It’s also very cheap at just $25 per head. The Activities Page has all the details. Please do note that you must have paid your membership fee to be able to go on this trip.

I have two matters for today.
Judy – our Librarian - is going on holiday again! She does get around. She has asked that no one donates any books, or brings back any returns, until 25th September. So, you can still take books out, but please don’t bring any back until the end of September.
Now my second item is to list the new committee that was elected yesterday. We had just 79 people at the meeting, and 65 proxies (Proxies are a lot of work verifying that they are legal and can be counted).
So here’s the list:-
President – Barry MacFarlane
Vice-President – Keith Bunnett
Secretary – Diana Blakeman
Treasurer – David Lovett
Committee members – Stephen Bailey - Dianne Bunnett – Judy Doekes Pitt – Herb Doekes – Gail Fox – Janette McNally - June Mellett – John Tzinis – John van der Wyk – Mary Yaksich

When you go into the club over the next couple of days, you will hear the defibrillator beeping. It’s saying that it’s battery is low. It will still work ok. I have ordered a new battery and will replace the old one as soon as I receive the new one.

This is a reminder that your time to book a seat at the AGM Luncheon runs out this Thursday 9th July. You need to have your money in the white box by then. If you have any preferences as to whom you want to sit with you need to drop a note in the white box by Thursday as well. There are ten seats to a table.

30 June 2026
G’day All
With regard to our AGM coming up on 13th July, we have two members, so far, vying for the position of president. They are Barry MacFarlane our present Vice-President, who has been active contacting the Council on my behalf at times, and is really active with our dances. Our other contender is John Tzinis. John runs our Pa Tuan Chin classes, and is active with our table tennis groups.
I have been reminded that we can accept proxy votes according to our Constitution. That’s quite correct, although we’ve never used it before.
So, here’s how it works. If you’re not going to attend the meeting personally, you may select another person who is going to the meeting to vote on your behalf. Of course, if that other person does not attend the meeting, your vote doesn’t count.
You must advise the Chair person of the meeting (that’s me) of what you are doing. There are two ways of doing this –
-
by a written note advising your full name – that is Christian name and Surname, and the name of the person you have selected as your Proxy. You can put instructions to the Proxy as to how you want to vote, or leave it up to the Proxy. You must sign the note, then arrange to get the note to me some time before the meeting, or, just before it starts.
-
By e-mail. You must include the same information on the e-mail – except of course, your signature. Now the rules for submitting the e-mail are as follows:-
-
Only one name can be on each email. The email address must be the one you have registered with the Club. This is to ensure that we can be reasonably sure that the email is being produced by the actual member it refers to.
-
E-mails must be submitted to me before 1pm on the 12th July – that’s 24 hours before the meeting. Use the same e-mail address that you received this notice on. That’s so we can complete the identity checks. No e-mails will be accepted after that time. Also, if the notes, and emails, are not exactly as requested above, they will not be accepted.
-
Well, that’s a lot to take in, it’s also a lot to organize! So I hope it works ok.
Regards Keith

This is for our Sunday Dancers, and any of our other dancers who would like to fill in a Slow Sunday with a fun dance.
Cliff has decided the dance this Sunday the 28th June will be a “Silly Sunday Soiree(Err: Dance!!).
This will be the day to show the world your funny side. Come along with your novelty hats, strange socks, footy gear, cartoon clothing, fancy dress gear, trade or work uniforms. Even naughty t-shirts (I can’t believe that any of us old staid people would have such items!!).
Or, why don’t you cross dress with your partner?
Now I know there’s lots of politically incorrect people at the Club – I’ve heard your comments!! So, all of you come along, with your different outfits, to our “Silly Sunday Soiree” and make it a “Spectacular Success!!”

Here’s a reminder for our AGM. It’s on Monday 13th July at Dorset Gardens Hotel. As well as new Committee members, we need nominations for the positions of President, and Secretary (Dianne and I are just backing away a little, we still hope to be on the committee). So come along and have a go on the Committee, it’s really quite interesting. The Activities Page has all the details. At present, about 350 of you are eligible to attend, BUT there are still 122 of you who have not paid their membership fee as yet. If you’ve forgotten whether you have paid or not, give me or Dianne a call and we’ll check our list for you.

This is an apology to everyone who has been at the Club yesterday and today. There were no biscuits available. I suspect that they were mistakenly locked away after the dance on Saturday night. Anyway the problem has been solved today and the biscuits are available again.

We’ve had about half of our members renew their membership for another year. But we also have about 170 members who have not renewed their membership yet I need to remind you that there is just 15 more days to 30th June. After that date you will not be a member of the Club any more so you won’t be eligible to attend any Club activity after that date. Do please get you membership fees I straight away so we can get back to enjoying all our activities.

We had a lecture on Elders Rights booked for today, but it was cancelled 10 days ago. I sent the e-mail advising the cancellation last Tuesday the 9th June – it’s listed below. It may be in your junk mail, or, I could have pushed the wrong button – that does happen – I have been known to send e-mails to myself, and wonder why I didn’t get a reply!! I do apologize for the confusion this has caused.
So, whilst I have you all here, the Genealogy lecture booked for the 20th July is also cancelled. We have a couple of points we need to fix up so we can present these lectures without any further confusion arising.

This is all about our AGM. It will be at the Dorset Gardens Hotel as usual, on Monday 13th July - Meal at Midday AGM at 1pm – all the details are on the Activities Page. Every position on the Committee is open and new faces are most welcome. We do need – in particular – a new President and a new Secretary, Dianne and I are stepping back a bit. We both hope to be on the new Committee, but, in slightly different roles. So, do put your hand up for any job, we both plan to be around to help, and give advice.
Please note that you must be a financial member to attend the lunch and AGM – that means for the year 2026-2027.

Yesterday I sent a query about running an Intro to genealogical searches.
Well, we seem to have quite a bit of interest, so it will run on Monday 20th July at 10AM. It will cost you $2, whether you have a cuppa, or not, as there is some expense to organizing this. So put your names on the list in the hallway and pay the $2 when you come to the Lecture.

We’ve had an offer from a Genealogical group in Backburn to run a talk on “Introduction to Genealogy”
Now, I’m not all that fussed about knowing what my ancestors did, but, I wonder if any of you would be interested. Please send me an e-mail back if you think this would be of interest to you so we can decide whether to run it, or not. It would be on Monday 20th July at 9.30am. Do please answer this straight away.

Do you remember last year when Stephanie and Mark Renouf came, with their portable piano, and entertained us for a non stop hour of music and songs? I think they were terrific, so I’ve invited them back. They will be at the Club on Saturday 27th June from 1.30pm onwards. Get your names down on the list in the hall way and pay your $5 for a great afternoon. Check the Activities Page for more details.

Janette has a really interesting presentation lined up for us on Monday 15th June at 9.30am. Siobhan, from Seniors Rights Australia will give us information about Seniors Rights, and about the Older Persons Advocacy Network. AND also about the MYGOV Support at Home Programme. Now that’s a lot of information, but probably the sort of information which will be very helpful to us all.

If you check out the Gallery Page on our website you will see all these photos of people eating! Doesn’t sound very exciting does it? But for the 66 members who came to the luncheon at the Manhattan Hotel yesterday (Monday) it was really nice. The Club subsidized the lunch by a considerable amount so it was CHEAP as well as really good. The food there is always fresh and tasty, with a big variety. It’s advertised as a Seafood meal, but that’s only a small part – there’s Asian, Italian, even good old Aussie Roasts. Everyone enjoyed themselves, and no one was in a hurry to leave, there were lots of groups just chatting away. Another nice Club day.

NEWSLETTTER MAY 2026
G’day All
It must be time for a newsletter since the last one was in February – I just can't believe how fast the months go past!
You know, Dianne and I have been in the club for 21 years, and I thought that the 50th Anniversary afternoon tea was the nicest day I’ve ever had at the Cub. I couldn’t do anything as I had a crook foot, so all the Committee, plus an extra group of members pitched in and helped run the day, and everyone helped to clean up. It was just a nice happy day with lots of conversation and good food (thanks Dianne).
I would like to thank everyone for the cards and kind messages I have received since I injured my foot. They made me feel much better.
It felt good to know that the donation we made to Blaze Aid was so much appreciated, and to also be told exactly how they are going to use our money. There is a link to the letter on our Web page under “News” on 28th April 2026.
We are still going along nicely with about 13 activities each week. I have asked Council to knock out the wall between the Board Room and the old storeroom to make more room for our cards and mahjong players. They have agreed and are drawing up plans for it, it will be at our expense, but that’s ok, as we had budgeted for it. We just need to get them to get overhead shelves built in the new storeroom so we can clear the old store room out. And, one day they will finish the verandah so we can put furniture out there and put it to use. (I reckon that will be a next summer thing!).
We are still giving money back to our members in a timely fashion. We have had four free sessions during the last year, and all of our trips, entertainment, and luncheons are heavily subsidized. Our activity fees remain really cheap. (Dianne has organized a subsidized luncheon at the Manhattan – check out the details on her section of this newsletter).
We do have to balance these with the need to allow for maintenance and unexpected costs, to ensure we keep the Club in the financially viable position that it is in now.
Keep in mind that the end of the financial year is close. Do, please pay your annual fees of $10 now. Also, keep in mind that our AGM will be on Monday 13th July at 1PM (Not sure where yet, we’re looking at a couple of options).
One of the actions at an AGM is to elect a new Committee to look after the Club for the following year, so every position from President through to ordinary Committee members are declared vacant. This is your chance to come on the Committee, put forward your ideas, and help keep the Club running. New ideas are essential to keep the Club up to date and relevant.
I will not be standing as President this year, I’ve been on the Committee for 18 years – including 12 years as Treasurer, and the past 4 as President. I’ve really enjoyed my time but, as I keep saying, every job needs a fresh face, and I think my face is wearing out!
I will stand for the Committee so hopefully, I will be allowed to send out gossipy e-mails still. Dianne will not be standing for Secretary this time, although I believe she hopes to keep on with her Membership and Social Secretary roles.
Well, that’s about it for me, read on for Dianne’s part.
MEMBERSHIP
The Annual fees of $10 are due by no later than 30th June. With so many members I would appreciate early payment. Receipts will be posted on the notice board under membership. Please write your full name and any changes to address, email or phone number along with your $10 in an envelope and put in white mailbox in passage.
Thanks
Our membership is still growing with 401 current members. To all our new members I hope you are enjoying all we have to offer. Also our older members, hope you still enjoy it. During our 50th Anniversary preparations I checked out our longest memberships, and here are the numbers:
2 at 27 years, 3 at 22 years, 7 at 21 years, 4 at 20 years, 2 at 19 years, 2 at 18 years, 2 at 17 years, 8 at 15 years, 4 at 14 years, 3 at 13 years, 14 at 12 years, 9 at 11 years, 8 at 10 years 333 under 10 years. Not bad figures. We must be doing something right. We hope everyone is keeping well, if you are unwell we wish you a speedy recovery.
ACTIVITIES.
Our next extra activity is a lunch at the Manhatten Hotel, on Monday 25th May. The club is heavily subsidising this. Cost to members will be $15. Please put your money in an envelope with your name and activity on it and put it in white mailbox in passage.
The Renouf duo will be back to entertain us on Sat 27th June, time to be advised, followed by afternoon tea. Cost $5. The brochure will go up early June. Once again put your money in an envelope with your full name and what activity you are paying for, and put in white box in passageway.
Our JULY activity is our AGM and lunch which will be held on Monday 13th July. Please keep this date free, and come along. More details will be available next month.
I haven’t booked a bus trip because of the fuel shortage, and the surcharge the bus company have added to the cost of hiring the bus. Also, as I may not be doing activities next month, it will be up to someone else to arrange, if anyone wants to give it a try. Arranging the extra activities, although a bit of work involved is a lot of fun, and knowing members enjoy them is very satisfying.
Thank you to everyone who has supported the activities I run. A big thank you to Joan Craig who helps me with afternoon teas as well as other jobs that need doing. Also, thanks to all the members who help pack up after concerts, or help with morning teas on the bus trips. Talking about bus trips, you, the members, make things run so smoothly by always being where you are supposed to be on time, so thank you.
I would like to say that I won’t be standing as secretary again this year. I have had this role for 5 years. I took it on with all my other portfolio’s as the secretary at the time resigned and nobody would put their hand up. I was only going to do it for that year, and 5 years on I am still doing it, I have really enjoyed the job. I would like to thank the committees I have worked with, and of course all you members for your support. Being on the committee you get to make good friends, and get to know a lot of people. I have thought about giving up my other roles on the committee, I do enjoy them, but if anybody else would like to give it a go I will stand aside and be happy to help if needed.
We would also like to say a special thank you to all the members who help out every day. The people who coordinate and set up for activities, eg Exercise, Bowls, Cards, Mahjong, Pa-Tuan-Chin, Table Tennis, Pool/Snooker, Dances, Dance programs, Dance tuition, Craft/Chat, Speakers, Walks, Bike rides. Prepare the kitchen for afternoon teas, and serve the drinks. They all take the time to set up so everyone can walk in and have things ready to go. Also thanks to the ones who clean up the kitchen after everyone has had afternoon tea, not forgetting the ones who put chairs, bowls mats, table tennis tables away. The list goes on and on. (Sorry if we have forgotten anyone, or group). Your help is appreciated, and it is what makes our club so good. Everyone can do a bit to help. Many hands make light work. Please take the time to thank the people in your activity who do, do these things to make your day enjoyable, a thank you goes a long way. Or better still come a little bit early and help out.
It would be remiss of us not to mention the fabulous job Cliff does with our website, if you haven’t looked at it, take the time to check it out. Cliff keeps it updated with the latest goings on at the club, including photos. Great work Cliff, Thanks.
Here’s a brief outline of jobs as presently arranged, for your perusal. Please contact me if you have any questions. Dianne 0411 446 854.

If you want to attend, please turn up about 2.15pm so you don’t disturb the Exercise class that concludes at 2pm.

G’day All again
There will be no bus trip in May due to the fuel price uncertainties. But they will be on again later in the year.
We have decided to have another Manhattan Seafood Luncheon instead. It’s on Monday 25th May, and will cost you just $15. Don’t forget it’s for members only. All the details are on the flyer attached.
Now, if you’re going to the Glad Physio lecture at the hall on that morning, you will still have time to go to the luncheon if you want to as the Manhattan is only 10 minutes away.

I’ve attached a flyer about a Mens Health Programme that Maroondah Council are running in June. It looks really interesting. The flyer explains it and also how to apply for a spot.

This is the final call to remind you of our fashion Parade on Saturday 9th May (sounds like a call to board a plane doesn’t it). Have your names and money in by Wednesday 6th March – don’t forget to bring a friend if you wish. Dianne tells me I have to look after the wine!! I wonder if she means I have to drink it??

What an absolutely lovely streak of weather we are having. It makes me feel good just being in the sun. We have another reason to feel good. You may remember that we scaled back our 50th Anniversary celebrations so that we could send $10,000 to Blaze Aid to help getting farm fences back up after the fires earlier this year. Blaze Aid have sent a lovely letter of thanks and a certificate. Click here to read the letter, and both the letter and certificate will go up on our notice board today.

Don’t forget that Dianne has a fashion show organized for Saturday 9th May at 1.30pm. The clothes will be provided by U and I designs, and the models on the cat walk are from our very own members. Because Mothers Day is the next day we thought it would be nice if members could bring their daughters – or a friend - to the Parade. We will provide a glass of sparkling wine, or soft drink, and a light afternoon tea for everyone. Do put your names on the list – it’s just $5 per person.

This is a reminder about the EACH presentation on Monday 27th April at 9.30am. It should be very interesting as they will give information about State and Federal assistance that we, as Seniors, can receive.
It’s going to be in the main hall, so there will be lots of room. So, just turn up and we will get more chairs out (we have 90 chairs). I know we have 25 people going already. If you’re going to stay for a cuppa after wards you can drop $2 into a container on the kitchen bench, otherwise, it’s no charge.

G’day All
Well, Dianne and I had a big sleep in yesterday after our busy Saturday. We had our flash afternoon tea for our 50th Anniversary. It was terrific!!
There was 120 members, the Mayor of Maroondah – Cr Linda Hancock – and a nice young bloke called Daniel Hearn – he’s our contact with the Maroondah Council. The weather was not too wet and everyone worked out the parking. It was fairly casual, we just put tables and chairs around the hall in a random pattern, and everyone just moved them around to suit. The glass of sparkling wine at the beginning was nice. We used our three tiered plates along the main tables, together with our nice matching crockery, and they all added to they all looked good .The food was great – we had scones with jam and cream, sandwiches, little pies, and quiches - we even had sushi, together with some fruit and cheese platters. Then there lots of slices of all types. So, plenty of food and lots of chatter and laughter.
We let people in earlier than planned – 1pm as it was quite cold, then at about 2:15pm. I gave a history of the Club over the last 50 years. Actually I will write it down during the next couple of days so anyone can read it if they’re interested. The Mayor cut the cake and offered a toast to the Club, and everyone got back to enjoying themselves. Mandy Savona enjoyed herself more than most as she won the $50 door prize!
It was all over by 3.30pm, just about everyone went by that time. I do need to acknowledge some people. Dianne planned the menu ,and bought lots of things that were needed to run the day. The afternoon prior, every single committee member turned out to help with all the set up. Then, on the Saturday they were all there again to make it run successfully, and do the pack up, which was, really, the hardest part. I also thank all the other members who helped pack up all the chairs and tables and helped with the kitchen clean up. It was great to see so many people pitch in to help. I also thank EPR for lending us their chairs so we could all sit down if we wanted. It was super day!!

We have a very interesting lecture happening on Monday 27th April at 9.30 am.
We will have three EACH presenters to talk about - help available to keep living at home from both State and Federal Governments. It should be most interesting. More details are on the flyer attached. There is a list up on the hall notice board now.

G’day All
I hope those of you with your names down for our 50th Anniversary afternoon tea, are looking forward to it.
We do have quite a lot of people coming, so we will be very short of parking spaces – there is approximately 80 spaces around the Club, but that won’t be enough.
You can park in Warrandyte Rd as well, but I really recommend that you car pool where possible – even if you find a quiet lane somewhere close where you can park a couple of cars and just bring one to the Club.
Do Not Come Early. We will have the hall set up, so there will be nowhere for you to wait. It’s supposed to start at 1.30pm. I reckon we will probably open the door at about 1.15pm.
Regards Keith

Anyway, our 50th Anniversary celebrations commence this Monday the 6th April. So, there are no activity charges for any activity from Monday 6th April to Sunday 19th April inclusive.
For those of you coming to our afternoon tea next Saturday 11th April, I will send out more details during the week. Do please note that only the people with names on the list will be able to attend as we have a large attendance list.

Do you know that yesterday – Monday – was Ballarat’s dryest day on record?? – Well that was between 9am to 10am, then the rains came back!!
Our bus trip – with 46 members - going to the Ballarat Botanical Gardens to have a look at the Begonias was eventful. It started off with bus arriving 20 minutes late because of traffic congestion, then there was no hot water on the bus for our morning tea, then it started raining before we got to Ballarat. However, we made up a little time on the trip, the bus company organized a hot water urn to be delivered to us at Ballarat, and the rain was really only a misty drizzle for the morning. So it ended up being a really nice day.
The Begonia display is absolutely magnificent – Cliff has put some of our photos onto our website for you to have a look at – and the Gardens themselves are quite beautiful. The area around Lake Wendouree is lovely. We had about two hours at the gardens then we walked across the road to Pipers Café for lunch. We had pre-ordered our meals and the café staff were very efficient, so lunch was really enjoyable. On the way home the rain got heavier, so, instead of stopping for a break, Henry – our driver – let us serve the muffins and biscuits and cheese on board, so we all stayed dry. (Thank you to all our passengers for leaving the bus clean for Henry). We arrived back at the Club at 4.20pm after a beaut day.

It’s on next Monday so do please call Janette on 0490 013 705 and put your name down.

The wheels are starting to grind forward for our 50th Afternoon Tea. I have a four items for this:–
-
If anyone has any club photos from the past, please let me know. We will put them up for everyone to see.
-
Cliff will take lots of photos (I hope – I’m sure he will – Are you there Cliff??). One particular one we will definitely take is of all our current - and previous Committee Members. We will do that somewhere around 2pm. So, if you have been on the Committee previously, come and get your photo taken.
-
It does seem as if we are going to have quite a crowd, and our car parking is quite limited for the numbers we have booked already. So, if it is at all possible, and convenient, please try to double up in your cars.
-
One last thing, the other thing the Committee has decided to do is have a two weeks free session, from Monday the 6th April and ending on Sunday the19th April – both dates inclusive. The 6th April is the actual birthday date for the Club.
